The Power of Essential Oils

Have you ever recognized a scent and have been taken back to your childhood or time in your life that was either such a great moment or maybe not the best. It is similar to hearing a familiar song, a sense of déjà vu that immediately takes over the body. 

For hundreds of years essential oils have been used as a property to help increase our mental and physical health. A potent scent that is extracted from a plant component; fruits, woods, seeds, flowers and leaves. 

For us, fragrance has always been a common interest in our relationship. Our collection has evolved throughout the years, initially we found ourselves sharing bottles of Jo Malone, D.S. & Durga, Tom Ford, Replica - Jazz Club still takes me back to our first/second years of meeting up for dates on King or Ossington after work. Kind of forget what it feels like to get dazzled up and go out for a nice dinner - missing that. 

As the years have went on, we still find ourselves sharing fragrances. Some of our favourites that we both wear include Summer Sauna by Universal Flowering, Scent One: Hinoki by Comme des Garcons - which brought us feeling so excited to create our own perfume oil that we would both use daily; Valley. 

Anything earthy, rich, smoky, spicy, something from the outdoors is what we tend to wear - and drink. Valley is a mix of all of this. Combining intoxicating hinoki, with undertones of cedar and sandalwood, and piercingly refreshing notes of fresh cut cypress. Along with marula and jojoba oil, the essential oils combined to create Valley were not only chosen for their scent, but also for their internal and external benefits. 

Hinoki: The calming scent of hinoki essential oil creates an uplifting, cleansing and comforting environment. Rich in anti-inflammatory properties hinoki is beneficial for our skin and helps to reduce anxiety. 

Cedarwood: In aromatherapy, inhaling the aroma of cedar essential oil (or absorbing cedar essential oil through the skin) is thought to transmit messages to the brain region involved in controlling emotions. By calming the body, cedarwood essential oils help to reduce stress, regulate breathing and clear sinuses. 

Sandalwood: The aroma of sandalwood in the air or when applied to your skin is proven to help fight bacteria because of its anti-bacterial properties. Sandalwood also helps to create alertness, reduce anxiety, and helps our skin to heal by promoting skin cell regeneration.

Juniper Berry: Juniper berries have antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties help in the fight against acne and breakouts. They also help balance the sebum production in the skin by regulating natural oil production. 

Cypress: Cypress oil is one of the many essential oils used to relieve muscle pain. It is often called an antispasmodic, meaning it can reduce muscle pain and cramps. Cypress essential oil is also antimicrobial and antibacterial, meaning it is known to help clean and heal cuts and wounds.
